Food Exploration Charts
Picky eater at home? You’re not alone. As both a Registered Dietitian and a mom, I know how exhausting it can feel when the same three foods are on repeat. Whether texture troubles, flavor aversions, or food fears in social situations, picky eating can be tough for kids and parents.
But here’s the truth: picky eating isn’t about being “difficult.” It’s often a way for kids to feel safe and in control in overwhelming situations. That’s why the solution isn’t pressure. It’s patience, compassion, and gentle curiosity.
That’s where my Food Exploration Charts come in.
Hi, I’m Rachel!
I’m a mom and a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Between my work with dancers and my own experience at home, I know firsthand how tough picky eating can be. Some days it feels like the same three foods are always on repeat, and the dinner table can turn into a battle instead of a place to connect.
I created these Food Exploration Charts because I wanted something fun, supportive, and pressure-free to help families like mine. Instead of focusing on “just one bite” or pushing foods kids aren’t ready for, these charts encourage gentle curiosity and celebrate every small step forward.
With patience, consistency, and a little bit of creativity, picky eating doesn’t have to feel so overwhelming. These charts are my way of helping you bring calm, confidence, and even some fun back to the table.

Why parents love them:
- A visual, fun way for kids to track their food exploration
- Pressure-free and judgment-free progress at their own pace
- Encourages curiosity, confidence, and openness to variety
- Helpful for families navigating ARFID, sensory aversions, or limited menus
How it works:
- Introduce a new food alongside familiar “safe” foods
- Let your child taste (or simply explore— smelling, touching, or licking counts!)
- Use the chart to mark their experience.
- Celebrate any step forward (because one bite at a time is all it takes!_
What’s possible:
- No more battles at the dinner table
- A growing list of foods your child feels comfortable with
- From resistance to curiosity (and sometimes even excitement!)
- Confidence that carries over into social situations and mealtimes away from home
